Your living room should be one of the most comfortable parts of your home and whether you prefer the minimalistic approach, or if you’re proud of your ornaments, accessories and gadgets – a good paint job can go a long way. We’re always happy to offer our professional and friendly services at affordable prices, and if there’s one thing that we’ve learnt over the years; it’s the power of choosing the right colours.
If you ask advice from a painter in any area and of any experience, they will readily admit that a good colour scheme can make or break the atmosphere within a room. Different hues denote varying emotions and if you opt for a combination that acts in a conflicting manner, you could soon end up feeling that animosity towards your room!
There aren’t many tones that we haven’t dealt with at some point in the past 25 years, in fact we’ve used pastel, metallic, monochrome shades and even neon hues. Although it’s not always possible to promise that two colour combinations will make a winning team – there are a few particular tones that will go with almost anything, furniture included.
Learning to limit a colour palette
One thing that we try to advise all of our clients on is the potential of a limited palette. There’s nothing wrong with choosing a multitude of colours – as long as they are similar in nature and can act to complement one another. The better idea however, would be to select a base colour and then find one or two complementary shades that will enhance the look and feel of a room.
For example, you could always decide on a soft peach or pastel pink to act as the basis for a little girl’s room. You could then complement this shade with a bold fuchsia and then opt for a stylish metallic for the trim and fittings within the room. Not only will this help to create a pleasant atmosphere – it won’t suffer with conflicts that could be introduced by applying bright reds, browns, or even greens.
It’s all about choosing a group of compatible colours and then using them in the most effective ways. There’s no harm in testing out a few shades and then deciding on which ones are the most appropriate, before introducing others and seeing how things look from a fresh angle.
